How I taught my grandmother to read 2015-08-02

This heart touching book written by Sudha Murty inspires young readers to connect to their grandparents... Its amazing how Sudha Murty took the readers to her childhood days.. This story narrates the incident where the author recalls that how she had taught her illiterate grandmother to readby herself. This book is also a collection of short stories and is an easy read. The good thing about the author’s book is that they are simple, small, day-to-day stories (sometimes narration of an incidence) which sends a good vibe inside you. Mostly related to Human nature and circumstances we face everyday. You can compare them with (probably) your Grandmother’s stories (which is not a bad thing). This is the story of a young girl who was given an unusual task to coach her illiterate grandma, how to read. She was stunned at first with this request, but her experience in teaching and training her grandmother, gave her a different perspective on life. It changed her completely for better forever. But then that is also its major flaw if you are expecting much more from these books.

How I Taught My Grandmother to Read and Other Stories 2015-08-05

This is a really wonderful book and anyone would love to read it. Its for children and adults alike. In this book, Sudha Murty shares some of her experiences with the readers. The best story is, without any doubt, 'How I Taught My Grandmother to Read.' Its a nice story. Murty recalls her childhood days in the story. Her grandmother, who couldn't read, learnt to read. How, you are gonna know in this story. The other stories are pretty good. The only thing I hate about her books is that she thinks too high of herself. In the other sense, she boasts about her values. Well, its a personal choice and you might like it more than I did. Overall, a perfect one- time read. But no second time. Atleast, not for me.

How I Taught My Grandmother 2016-02-29

I have read many fiction stories but the the other day my mother bought me a book by sudha murthy-how i taught m y grandmother to read. And once i started reading it it was hard to keep it down i read it during the holidays. These real life experiences are written so beautifully that i imagined myself with the author talking to Abdul kalam.this book is not only interesting but taught me that honesty is always good. I liked the story the rainy day that the words of elders have experience in them and i have implemented this value in my life by listening to my mothers words. The story of two doctors is really amazing and had caught my attention. Your grandmother teaches you moral values and teaches you to read and write, but what would happen if it was the other way around? It was the first book of sudha murthy that i had read and it inspired me to read the other books which i have almost finished. So to know more just get up and search your shelf and who knows you may fin find this amazing book on the first glance?

how i thaught my grandmother to read 2016-02-29

The story begins as the author recalls her childhood days. She used to stay in a village in North Karnataka with her grandparents. The village was a remote place, so the morning paper was got in the afternoon and the weekly magazine came one day late. At that time, Triveni was a very popular writer in the Kannada language and all the village people would wait eagerly for the weekly magazine Karmaveera, where one of her novels Kashi Yatre was appearing as a serial. It was the story of an old lady and her strong desire to go to Kashi or Varanasi, where she wished to worship Lord Vishweshwara to attain the ultimate punya. But finally, the old lady sacrifices all her savings for the marriage of a young orphan girl, who falls in love but there was no money for her wedding. Impressed by the plot of Kashi Yatre, the author's grandmother Krishtakka would listen to the story as her granddaughter (the author) read the episodes to her. Afterwards, she used to join her friends at the temple courtyard and would discuss the latest episodes After enjoying a wedding ceremony for a week with her cousins, when the author returned home, she found her grandmother in tears. When the author asked her that why she was crying, she narrated her life-story to the author and expressed her grief about getting married very early and not going to school. She explained that when the author was away, Karmaveera came as usual. But she couldn't even read a single letter and felt very embarrassed, helpless and dependent. After this, she made a firm determination that she would learn to read the Kannada alphabet from the next day onwards and keep Saraswati Puja day during Dussera as the deadline. That day she should be able to read a novel by herself. As a result, the next day onwards the author started her tuition and found her grandmother to be a very intelligent and hardworking student who did amazing amounts of homework and who could read, repeat, write and recite. When the Dussera festival came as usual, the writer secretly bought Kashi Yatre which had been published as a novel by that time. and her grandmother read it.

how i thought my grandmother 2017-09-04

The writer was twelve years old and she used to stay with her grandparents in north Karnataka. Since there were very few diversions, the entire family would eagerly wait for a weekly magazine called Karamveera. This magazine was publishing famous writer Triveni’s novel, ‘Kashi Yatre’ as a serial. The novel dealt with the protagonist’s struggle to visit Kashi. Since grandmother believed in Kashi-Yatra as a pilgrimage, she could identify with the trials and tribulations of the main characters. Every Wednesday, the writer would read the next episode of the story to her. The grandmother would not only listen with great attention but also memorize it by heart. Later she would discuss it with friends in the temple courtyard. One day the writer had to go to the neighbouring village for a cousin’s wedding and stayed back there for a week. When she returned, she was surprised to see her grandmother in tears. At night, the grandmother narrated how her past life, feeding and bringing up children, kept her busy, sparing no time for education of any kind. Moreover, education for girls was not considered as important in those days. Without the granddaughter, she had a tough time trying to decipher and guess the next episode of ‘Kashi Yatre’. She had felt very desperate and helpless, mutely gazing at the pictures, unable to read a single word. This incident fanned the grandmother’s desire to learn the Kannada alphabet and she vowed to learn it by Dassera. The granddaughter’s pleas, her mockery of the grandmother’s age, all fell on deaf ears. No wonder, the grandmother proved to be an ideal student. In no time, she could read, repeat and write Kannada. The writer presented her with a copy of the novel ‘Kashi Yatre’ as a token of appreciation and grandmother touched the feet of her granddaughter, her teacher, as a befitting tribute.

How I Taught My Grandmother I have read many fiction stories but the the other day my mother bought me a book by sudha murthy-how i taught m y grandmother to read. So to know more just get up and search your shelf and who knows you may fin find this amazing book on the first glance?. It was an awesome and intresting book.
